Design Guide: Integrating 230nm UVC LEDs into Medical and Sensor Devices

Mar 8, 2026 u-vcare

Thermal Management for High-Power Chips

At the heart of the u-vcare 230nm LED is a high-performance 48*48 mil chip. While efficient, managing the heat flux is critical for maintaining the 3.0 mW radiant output. We recommend using Aluminum Nitride (AlN) PCBs or high-conductivity metal-core PCBs (MCPCB) to keep the junction temperature (T_j) below 100°C.

Optical Distribution & Beam Angle

With a 120° viewing angle, our 230nm SMDs provide broad coverage. For focused medical applications—such as fluorescence spectroscopy or localized wound phototherapy—secondary optics (silicone lenses) can be used to narrow the beam and increase irradiance (mW/cm²).

Soldering Reliability

Reliability starts at the assembly line. Our 230nm LEDs are designed for Reflow Soldering according to JEDEC J-STD-020D. Proper stencil design and temperature profiling prevent "tombstoning" and ensure a void-free thermal path.
